چکیده

Antagonisms between 2 simultaneously developing processes were studied by inducing experimental allergic encephalomyelitis in rats bearing liver tumors produced by feeding 4-dimethylaminobenzene (4-DAB) or in nontumorous rats which either received the 4-DAB tumorigenic diet or were treated with a tumorigenic dose of 3,4-benzpyrene. It was shown that tumorous and pretumorous rats were less susceptible to sensitization with the encephalitogenic vaccine. The occurrence of 4-DAB liver tumors was lower if the en cephalitogenic vaccine was injected within about 1 month after the end of the azo dye feeding. The results are discussed in view of the assumption that processes similar to the competition of antigens may be the cause of described antagonisms.

Effect of Honey Bee Venom on Lewis Rats with Experimental Allergic Encephalomyelitis, a Model for Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a progressive and autoimmune neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system (CNS). This disease is recognized through symptoms like inflammation, demyelination and the destruction of neurological actions. Experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) is a widely accepted animal model for MS. EAE is created in animals by injecting the tissue of myelin basic...

Evaluate Toxocara Canis Excretory-Secretory Antigens in Experimental Allergic Encephalomyelitis (EAE)

BACKGROUND: Toxocara canis is the most prevalent intestinal roundworm of canid species. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the effects of Toxocara canis excretory-secretory antigens (TcES Ag) on modulating the immune system in Experimental Allergic Encephalomyelitis (EAE) model. METHODS: Adult worms of T.canis were collected from dogs to obtain excretory-secretory antigens. Female C57BL/6m...

Further observations on the role of the pituitary and the adrenal gland in azo dye carcinogenesis.

Several investigators have observed that the pituitary exerts an effect on carcinogenesis and also on the growth of tumors. Ferguson and Visscher (1) found that hypophysectomy pre vented the development of postcastration adrenal cortical nodular hyperplasia in C3H mice. Moon and associates (7-9) reported that the administra tion of growth hormone to female rats (LongEvans strain) resulted in tu...

Substrate-induced synthesis and other properties of benzpyrene hydroxylase in rat liver.

The intraperitoneal injection of weanling rats with 1 mg. or less of 3-methylcholanthrene or of certain other polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons rapidly induces several-fold increases in the activities of two hepatic microsomal enzyme systems which can metabolize 4-dimethylaminoazobenzene and related dyes (I). These TPNH’-dependent systems catalyze the oxidative removal of the N-methyl groups and...
